May 2018 - Market Hall Refurbishment
Construction work has now commenced on the internal refurbishment of Sandbach Market Hall on behalf of the Town Council. The scope of works includes improvements to the market stalls, replacement of internal canopy roofs, re-decoration, lighting and signage.
April 2018 - Science Museum
Two new appointments have been received for roof maintenance works at a listed museum building in Manchester. One project involves the replacement of leaking patent glazed roof lights over an exhibition area and the second installation of access equipment, walkways and guarding to provide safe access to maintain the pitched roofs. David Trowler Associates are providing Building Surveying, Principal Designer and CDM Advisor Services.
March 2018 - Cemetery Extension
We have commissioned to design and project manage the extension of a rural cemetery in Cheshire. The project involves the conversion of former agricultural land, opposite an existing cemetery, to form an extended cemetery and will include new parking area, boundary treatments and soft and hard landscaping.
February 2018 - Principal Designers
Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service have appointed David Trowler Associates to act as Principal Designers for two major multi-million pound projects. One involves the re-development of their former headquarters site to provide a new training facility and the second the replacement of a city centre fire station with a new community fire station.
January 2018 - Primary School
Our latest design and construct commission involves the design of three extensions and internal re-modelling to a primary school to provide dedicated classrooms and new toilet facilities. The main circulation areas are also to be refurbished. Upon completion a mobile classroom block will be removed from site. We have been appointed to provide Principal Designer and architectural design services.
December 2017 - Access Consultancy
We have been appointed, by the main contractor, on four design and construct projects to provide specialist inclusive design consultancy services during the design development stages.
November 2017 - Market Hall Refurbishment
The practice is currently working on design proposals for the internal refurbishment of Sandbach Market Hall on behalf of the Town Council. The scope of works includes maintenance and improvement works to the building and lighting. Illustrations of the design proposals have been prepared to assist the Client and support the public consultation. October 2017 - Investors in People
Our Investors in People accreditation has been renewed for a further three years. David Trowler Associates first achieved the standard in 2011 and have now been re-assessed on two further occasions. The accreditation demonstrates that we continue to deliver the best for our staff in the fields of people management and development.
September 2017 - Toilet Refurbishment
We have been appointed by a Local Authority client to act as Principal Designer and architectural consultant for the refurbishment of town centre public conveniences. The brief requires the facilities to be accessible, modern and low maintenance whilst minimising the opportunities for vandalism.
August 2017 - Surveying Services
David Trowler Associates provide a comprehensive range of technical surveying services. During August we have carried out site investigations and prepared defect reports for both a major roofing problem to a primary school and flooring defects to a secondary school. We have also assisted a public sector client to identify the cladding materials fixed to the exterior of the leisure centre buildings and to highlight areas where further investigation / testing may be required.
July 2017 - Feasibility Studies
The Practice has been commissioned to support a Leisure sector client in assessing their future development options for three sites through the preparation of feasibility studies to explore options for extending and re-modelling the existing buildings to provide enhanced facilities. To assist the Client in visualising the proposals detailed visuals were provided as part of the feasibility study packages.
June 2017 - Education
We are currently working on a number of education projects including a new build two classroom block for a special school in Chester; an office and staff room extension for an academy school in Crewe; a new dining room conversion for a school in Northwich and minor alterations to form a Music Room at a rural primary school.
May 2017 - New Staff
We are pleased to welcome Julie Sadlier who has joined us this month. Julie is a Chartered Building Surveyor with extensive experience in the public housing sector and had joined our professional team to deliver a full range of services.
April 2017 - Leisure Centre Gym
Detailed design has now commenced on a project to convert two squash courts, at a Leisure Centre, to provide a new Gym facility. The scope of works includes installation of a mezzanine floor and staircase and the formation of new window openings in existing precast concrete walls. David Trowler Associates are providing Principal Designer and building surveying services for the project.
March 2017 - Health and Safety
The Practice is currently undertaking a number of health and safety related commissions including acting as CDM Advisors for a major restoration project at the Pavilion Gardens, Buxton and Town Hall alteration and refurbishment works in Biddulph. We are also acting as Principal Designers on various schemes including two school extensions, demolition of redundant council premises and remedial works to a swimming pool.
February 2017 - Feasibility Study
We have been appointed by a Local Authority client to prepare a feasibility study for the modernisation of their customer care provisions at two key sites. The brief requires the complete re-design of the accommodation to incorporate modern technology and creation of additional meeting space and other visuals. As part of the proposals we will provide visuals of the proposed accommodation together with floor plans and budget costs.
January 2017 - Condition Surveys
Within one month we have surveyed and prepared costed condition reports on over 25 properties for a public sector client to form the basis of long-term strategy for the modernisation of their property assets.
December 2016 - Specialist Surveys
A specialist survey has been completed on behalf of a public sector client to inspect the ceiling voids throughout their Headquarters office premises to identify and record the current provisions with regard to fire-stopping. To minimise disruption to the client the majority of the survey was carried out at the weekend.
November 2016 - School Window Replacement
Work has now commenced on site as part of the second phase of a window replacement programme at a Cheshire primary school. The scope of works involves replacement of single glazed timber framed windows with new aluminium framed double glazed windows and includes re-design of the external cills to protect against moisture ingress. David Trowler Associates provided design, contract administration and Principal Designer services.
October 2016 - Defect Analysis
We were commissioned by a local authority client to inspect and advise on the causes of an on-going problem with flat roof leaks at a public sector housing block. Following a detailed investigation, including use of a borescope and forming openings in key elements of the structure, we were able to identify that the primary source of the water ingress related to the cavity walls rather than the flat roof. A detailed report was provided including the results of our investigations and recommendations for remedial works.
September 2016 - Library Alterations
Following a feasibility study we have now been commissioned to progress the scheme development for internal alterations to a listed library building in Cheshire. The scheme will improve facilities for the public, provide additional meeting space and include the refurbishment of the public toilets.
August 2016 - Principal Designer
We are continuing to expand our client base for the provision of Principal Designer services. Current projects include improvement and refurbishment works to Holmes Chapel Community Centre, on behalf of Everybody Sport and Recreation, and the fit out of a new Chop’d Retail outlet in Manchester for TW Build + Construct.
July 2016 - Penketh Community Fire Station
Completion on site has now been achieved for the new build Community Fire Station at Penketh, near Warrington. The station is second of four new fire stations to be built as part of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Emergency Response Programme to improve fire cover and response times across the county. The first new station at Alsager was opened 12 months ago.
Both new stations were designed by David Trowler Associates and we also provided Principal Designer and CDM Advisor services for the latest development.
June 2016 - Demolition Works
We have been appointed to provide surveying services and party wall advice in relation to emergency demolition works being undertaken by a Local Authority client. The project involves the demolition of a former mill in a poor state of repair on a town centre advice and our commission involves preparing schedules of condition for adjoining properties and provision of specialist advice with regard to the Party Wall Act and the proposed works.
May 2016 - Education Projects
We are currently working on two classroom extension projects for primary schools in Cheshire involving a single classroom extension to a school in Scholar Green and a two classroom extension to a school in Haslington, Crewe. Both projects are due to commence on site this summer.
April 2016 - LABC Awards
The new community fire station at Alsager, Cheshire has been highly commended in the Best Public Service Building category of the 2016 North West Regional LABC awards. Architectural design services for the new station were provided by David Trowler Associates, on behalf of Cheshire Fire Authority, with the construction being carried out by Walter Carefoot (Construction) Ltd.
March 2016 - Leisure Centre Surveys
We have completed a commission to undertake roof surveys of five leisure centres for a local authority client. Each property was inspected using high level access equipment and condition survey report provided together with recommendations for interim and long term remedial works. In addition we also provided outline feasibility studies for the modernisation of a number of the Leisure Centres.
February 2016 - Chester City Baths
The refurbished Chester City Baths have now been officially opened by the Duke of Westminster. The building is one of only a few Victorian baths still open as a swimming pool and has undergone a £2.5 million refurbishment principally to replace roof coverings and repair and treat corroded metalwork. David Trowler Associates provided CDM Co-ordinator services for the project.

December 2015 - Access Consultancy
This month has seen our appointment to provide access consultancy services on two new construction projects in Liverpool, the first involving a school and the second a care home.

We are pleased to welcome Harriet Jennings who has joined us this month. Harriet is a building surveying undergraduate who is working part-time with the Practice to support the professional team whilst gaining practical experience.
October 2015 - Health & Safety
This month sees the end of the transition period for the implantation of the CDM Regulations 2015 and the end of the role for CDM Co-ordinators.
With over 19 years involvement in the delivery of CDM related services, which have always been provided by staff members who are also designers, we have the skills and experience to undertake the role of Principal Designer. We are also able to assist Clients by acting as CDM Advisor and are already delivering both these services for many of our key clients.
In August 2015 we achieved CHAS accreditation as both Principal Designers and Designers.
September 2015 - Hospital Roof Replacement
Completion of the latest phase of the flat roof replacement programme at a North West NHS hospital site has now been completed. Seven phases have now been completed over the last 5 years seven with a value in excess of £1.5 million and include replacement of roofs to wards, laboratories and offices. David Trowler Associates have provided building surveying, contract administration and CDM Co-ordination services for all seven phases.
August 2015 - Alsager Fire Station
The new community fire station in Alsager, Cheshire was officially opened by the Lord Lieutenant of Cheshire on 7th August and is the first of four new fire stations to be built as part of Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service’s Emergency Response Programme to improve fire cover and response times across the county.
The new station was designed by David Trowler Associates who also provided contract administration and CDM Co-ordination services for the project.
July 2015 - School Sponsorship
In late June, we were proud to co-sponsor the Racing Challenge Super 8 Driving Simulator at Birkenhead School's Parent Association's Mad Hatter's Tea Party. The Birkenhead School's Parents' Association is a committee whose members help organise fund raising events.
June 2015 - Ambulance Station Refurbishment
Work has now been completed on the major refurbishment of a mid-Wales ambulance station including the replacement of pitched and flat roof coverings, internal alterations and an upgrade of the electrical installation.
David Trowler Associates provided design, project management, contract administration and CDM Co-ordinator services for the project.
May 2015 - Project Management
We are assisting a local authority client in the project management of remedial works to an extension at one of the schools. The work is being undertaken as a result of a defect report, carried out by David Trowler Associates in 2014, which identified a number of workmanship issues with the drainage system.
April 2015 - Locker Room & Toilet Refurbishment
Newly refurbished locker room and toilets have now been handed over at Congleton Fire Station. As part of an on-going programme to modernise the facilities new wet room style toilet and shower pods have been formed and the locker room extended and refurbished.
March 2015 - Office Refurbishment
Completion has now been reached for the refurbishment of two floors of office accommodation in Crewe on behalf of Cheshire East Council. The scope of works including new flooring, decoration, power and data services as well creation of new break out areas, with kitchens, and refurbishment of toilets.
David Trowler Associates provided design, project management and contract administration services for the project.
February 2015 - Car Park Extension
We have been appointed to design and project manage to construction of an extension to the staff car park at the North Wales Headquarters of the Welsh Ambulance Service. The scheme will provide 32 additional spaces and involves installation of new drainage, including an interceptor, new kerbs and laying of surfacing.

December 2014 - Framework Award
We have been awarded a position on the Wales Public Sector Framework for Construction Consultancy Services to provide CDM Co-ordination services in the North Wales region.
November 2014 - Framework Award
We have been successful in being appointed to the Cheshire East Council Framework for property related consultancy services for both building surveying and CDM Co-ordinator services.
October 2014 - New Community Fire Station
Construction work has now commenced on a new community fire station in Alsager, Cheshire. We are providing architectural design, contract administration and CDM Co-ordination services for the project.
A former council depot, in the town centre, is being converted to provide the new station and the scope involves demolition of ancillary buildings, refurbishment and extension of the main garage building and new yard surfacing and boundary treatments. The proposals incorporate a number of sustainable design features including high levels of insulation to the fabric, an air source heat pump and photovoltaic panels.
September 2014 - School Hall Extension
Completion has now been achieved on a major extension and refurbishment of the sports hall at a special school in Cheshire. The project involved replacement of the roof to allow the height of the building to be increased to enable students to participate in trampolining. In addition two extensions were built to increase the floor area of the Hall and provide additional storage. New floor and ceiling finishes were installed throughout and the lighting and heating replaced.
David Trowler Associates provided design, project management and contract administration services for the project and also acted as CDM Co-ordinators.
August 2014 - Training
As part of our BIM implementation plan our staff have now completed a Revit Architectural training course, which was delivered in-house by a specialist-training provider. Following the introduction of Revit software earlier in 2014 we are now able provide Building Information Modelling, or BIM, to create intelligent, multidimensional model of a project, building or site.
July 2014 - Brine Leas School
Phase 2 of the window replacement programme has now been completed involving the replacement of the curtain walling to the front elevation of the main three-storey teaching block at the front of the site. The project involved replacing the original metal framed single glazed windows with aluminium framed curtain walling with double glazed tinted glass. In addition new cladding has been fitted to the columns and fascias and rainwater goods replaced.
The works were carried out during term time, whilst the school was occupied with the rooms being vacated as part of a phased programme to allow for safe execution of the works.
David Trowler Associates provided design, project management and CDM Co-ordination services for both phases of the window replacement.
June 2014 - Grosvenor Park Restoration
The restoration of Grosvenor Park in Chester has now been completed and an official opening is planned for late July 2014. Funded through a £2.3 million grant from the Heritage Lottery Parks for People fund the
improvements include restoration of the Victorian landscape design and planting plans, resurfacing of paths and restoration of boundary walls and fencing. A new natural play area to the east of the miniature railway and a new cafe and community rooms in the lodge building have also been provided.
David Trowler Associates were involved in this project as CDM-Co-ordinators.
May 2014 - Building Surveying
We have been appointed to provide building surveying design services by Cheshire East Council for the refurbishment of staff welfare facilities at West Park Macclesfield. The works will involve conversion of stores to create new lockerroom, toilets and showers and refurbishment of existing kitchen / welfare area.
April 2014 - Office Refurbishment
The external refurbishment of our office premises is now nearly complete, with the scaffolding removed to reveal the new windows and entrance door. Rainwater goods have been replaced and repairs carried out to the fabric, including roof maintenance and re-pointing. The final phase will involve replacemetn of the signage to coincide with the unveiling of our new branding and logo.
March 2014 - Ambulance Stations
Work has now commenced on site to refurbish two North Wales ambulance stations. Internal alterations and refurbishment works are being undertaken at one station to provide modernised locker, toilet and shower facilities whilst the second site is undergoing a major external and internal refurbishment including replacement of roof coverings, and windows.
David Trowler Associates are providing building surveying, project management and CDM Co-ordination services for both projects.
February 2014 - School Window Replacements
We have been appointed to provide building surveying and CDM Co-ordinator services for Phase 2 of the window replacement works at Brine Leas School, Nantwich. Phase 1 was completed in June 2013 and comprised of the replacement of the curtain walling to the rear of the main three-storey accommodation block.
Phase 2 involves replacement of the curtain walling to the front elevation of the school, including new entrance doors and is due to commence on site in April 2014.
January 2014 - Carbon Reduction Plan Update
As part of our current environmental responsibilities and our commitment to reducing our carbon footprint by 5% annually, the staff at David Trowler Associates again exceeded their target. In comparing our performances from 2010-2013 we have successfully managed a massive 47.58% reduction of Co2e in our Business Mileage Reduction Performance Plan.
Last year we looked to improve carbon reduction and energy efficency at our Wallasey office. Late November 2013 saw the installation of loft insulation, and we are currently in the process of installing double glazed windows. Both installations will reduce unnecessary heat loss and further reduce our carbon footsteps, in line with our Environmental Responsible Practice Policy.
December 2013 - Alsager Fire Station
Earlier this month the public consultation was held for the proposed new community fire station in Alsager, Cheshire. The project involves conversion of a vacant town centre depot site into a new fire station with the existing garage building being refurbished and extended.
The new station has been designed by David Trowler Associates and is the second of two new stations where we have been appointed to provide architectural design services and assist in submission of the planning application.
November 2013 - New Staff
We are pleased to welcome Matthew Morris, an experienced architectural technician who has joined us to strengthen our professional team and further enhance the delivery of our computer aided design team.
October 2013 - Penketh Fire Station
Proposals for a new-build community fire station at Penketh, near Warrington, have now been unveiled to the public as part of a consultation exercise by Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service.
It is anticipated that the station will be a joint use facility with North West Ambulance Service and the proposed development will also include a community room, with toilet and kitchen facilities, which can be booked by local groups and organisations.
David Trowler Associates have provided architectural design services for the new station, which included the preparation of visuals of the proposed building.
September 2013 - Sports Hall Floor
Completion has now been achieved in the replacement of the sports hall flooring at a Cheshire Leisure Centre. The work was commissioned following a survey of the floor by David Trowler Associates that identified a problem with failure of the screed leading to a break up of the existing floor covering.
We prepared a specification for the remedial works including selection of a specialist repair system to harden the screed and assisted the Client in selection of the new sports flooring. Contract administration and project management services were also provided during the construction phase.
August 2013 - New Commissions
The Practice has secured three major commissions this month including appointment as CDM Co-ordinator to two multi-million pound developments in Chester / South Wirral. We are now currently providing CDM Co-ordination services for projects with a combined value in excess of £40 million.
We have also been appointed to provide design services and assist in obtaining planning approval for the construction of two new fire stations in the North West, including one new-build development and one refurbishment project.
July 2013 - Gardener's Cottage
This month has seen the official opening of the Gardener's Cottage at Tatton Park. The former head gardener's house and gardens, adjoining the Stableyard, have been converted into a new dining experience offering table service, inside and out, with a specialist menu designed to reflect the unique location.
The project involved alteration and refurbishment works to a listed building, at a major tourist attraction, and David Trowler Associates provided full design and project management services for the project.
June 2013 - Education
Preparations are being finalised for a range of education sector projects due to be carried out or completed over the summer holiday period.
Construction work has already commenced on the construction of a new extension and pupil entrance to a Cheshire Academy secondary school. Projects due to commence next month include replacement of the defective floor structure within a primary school, extension and alterations to classrooms to a special needs school and alterations to form a new reception and offices to another primary school.
Our project team are also providing CDM Co-ordination services for seven roofing and refenestration projects on schools during the same period.

April 2013 - Healthy Hearts Gym
Construction work has now been completed on The Healthy Hearts Gym at Runcorn Fire Station. The Facility is designed to assist members of the public with cardiac-related illnesses and has been developed in co-operation with the local NHS Trust.
The gym housed in a former vacant detached garage building has been fully refurbished including installation of a mezzanine floor and accessible toilet and shower facilities. As part of the works the roof structure was removed and raised to accommodate the new mezzanine.

March 2013 - New Library
Work has now commenced on site, at Frodsham Leisure Centre to provide a new library. The facility is being created through conversion of existing boiler and plant rooms and involves extensive internal structural alterations to create the open plan floor area required for the library.
Working on behalf of Harry Fairclough Construction Ltd, David Trowler Associates have provided lead consultant and architectural design services. CDM Co-ordinator services are also being provided directly to the Client.
February 2013 - Science Laboratory & Classroom Extension
Detailed design has now been completed on a classroom improvements to an academy school in Cheshire. A new science laboratory is to be created through refurbishment of two existing classrooms whilst at the rear of the school an extension is to be constructed and the existing building re-modelled to provide a new SEN classroom suite and pupil entrance.
We are acting as lead consultant, designers and project managers and are also providing CDM Co-ordinator services.
January 2013 - Carbon Reduction Plan Update
In line with our current Environmental Responsible Practices, and in addition to our commitment made in May 2012 to reduce our carbon footprint by 5% annually. Staff at David Trowler Associates have achieved and exceeded their original target. We compared our performance from 2010 to 2012, and have successfully managed a 19.26% reduction of CO2e in our Business Mileage Reduction Performance.
We are looking to further reduce our Carbon Footprint Emissions by 5% per annum. Positive proof of our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and thus minimising our contribution to climate change.
December 2012 - Listed Building Conversion
We have been appointed as Lead Consultant and Building Surveyors for the conversion of a former residential building to provide new Tea Rooms.
Set within a listed walled garden, at a major North West heritage tourist attraction, the project involves adapting the existing house and outbuildings to include new kitchen, servery and toilets together with internal and external dining facilities. In addition maintenance works will be carried out to the fabric of the building and improvements carried out to fire precautions and accessibility.
November 2012 - New Classroom Block
Completion has now been achieved in the construction of a new build two-storey classroom building at Brine Leas School, Nantwich. The building replaces three mobile blocks and provides four ICT classrooms and four standard classrooms.
The new facility was provided as part of a design and build development, managed and constructed by Harry Fairclough Construction Ltd. David Trowler Associates provided architectural design and construction detailing services on behalf of Harry Fairclough Construction.
David Trowler Associates also provided CDM Co-ordination services for the project for the Client.
October 2012 - Park Restoration
David Trowler Associates have been appointed as CDM Co-ordinators for a Heritage Lottery Funded project to restore Grosvenor Park in Chester.
The £2.3 million project aims to restore the park to its original Victorian design and includes planting, re-surfacing of paths, repairs to boundaries and improved signage. The exisiting Lodge is to be converted and extended to provide a cafe and community rooms and new training building is to be constructed.
September 2012 - Fire Station Rationalisation
We are currently working on a commission to rationalise the accommodation within a city centre Fire Station. Operational accommodation is to be relocated from two floors to a new refurbished facility on the ground floor together with improvements to disabled access and the provision of a community meeting room.
David Trowler Associates are providing building surveying, project management and CDM Co-ordinator services.
August 2012 - Retail Development
A new CDM Co-ordination appointment has been received for a new build retail development in South Liverpool. The scheme involves the construction of two units complete with car parking and a separate service yard complete with access.
July 2012 - CHAS
Our CHAS accreditations for both Designers and CDM Co-ordinators has been reviewed and renewed as part of their annual assessment process.
CHAS is a national body, used by over 400 public and private sector organisations, that assesses the competency of suppliers in how they manage and achieve compliance with key health and safety legislation in the construction sector.
June 2012 - Hospital Car Park
The Practice are acting as project manager for a major new car parking scheme which forms part of re-development works to an NHS Trust Hospital.
The project involves demolition of existing buildings, site preparation and the construction of new parking complete with access road, drainage, lighting and soft and hard landscaping. The car park is required to achieve Park Mark Safer Parking design standard and certification upon completion.
May 2012 - Carbon Smart
Carbon SmartCarbon Smart Blue Standard has been awarded to us as a recognition for our commitment to reducing carbon emissions and thus minimising our contribution to climate change. Following a detailed audit of our premises and working practices an action plan has now been implemented to target a 5% annual reduction in carbon emissions.
April 2012 - Office Refurbishment
Major refurbishment works to two floors of a multi-storey office block in Crewe have now been successfully completed and handed over to the client for occupation.
Undertaken in an occupied building the scope of work involved removal of all existing partition walls to allow for an open plan office arrangement. New meeting and kitchen facilities were provided and toilets fully refurbished. Electrical services installations were replaced throughout.
The fit-out included new doors, flooring, decoration and suspended ceilings throughout.
The project was carried out as part of a Framework Agreement and David Trowler Associates provided lead consultant and building surveying services.
March 2012 - CSCS Platinum Certification
We have now been awarded The Construction Skills Certification Scheme platinum certification which is awarded to companies that have shown a level of commitment to CSCS and / or its affiliated Schemes. Platinum is achieved through at least 90% of the on-site staff having a current CSCS card. At David Trowler Associates 100% of staff, who visit construction sites, have CSCS cards.
February 2012 - Access Improvements
Construction work has now been completed to provide improved disabled access and parking to a Cheshire primary school. Located on a sloping site with a 2 metre height difference between the entrance gate and building the project involved detailed design to create a new approach route, with ramps and steps, to allow access for wheelchair users and ambulant disabled. Safety for parents and pupils was also achieved through separation of the route from the car park.
The car park itself was re-designed and extended to create 6 additional spaces whilst the main entrance to the school was improved with new glazing and entrance doors complete with automatic door openers.
David Trowler Associates assisted the school in obtaining funding for the project and provided design, project management and CDM Co-ordinator services.
January 2012 - CDM Co-ordination
Cheshire East Council have appointed us as CDM Co-ordinators for a number of schemes with a combined value in excess of £1.3 million. The projects include conversion of a former school to provide office accommodation, extensions at three schools to replace mobile classrooms, and smaller schemes involving planned maintenance and internal alterations / improvements.
December 2011 - Ambulance Service
A number of projects are currently being undertaken on behalf of an Ambulance Service Trust including re-roofing and refenestration works and the modernisation of toilet and locker room facilities. We are also co-ordinating the demolition of two redundant radio masts located in rural locations, one of which is a site of special scientific interest.
David Trowler Associates are providing building surveying, project management and CDM Co-ordinator services for each commission.
November 2011 - Foundation Unit
Completion has now been achieved on a project to provide two extensions to a rural primary school to replace
dilapidated mobile classrooms. One extension, on the front of the School, provides accommodation for a Foundation Unit for nursery and reception age pupils and includes a new external play area and canopy. A second extension to the rear provides a new classroom and link corridor to improve access to the Hall.
The project was carried out as part of a Framework Agreement and David Trowler Associates provided building surveying, lead consultant and CDM Co-ordinator services.
October 2011 - Access Audit
We have been commissioned by Trafford Council to carry out an access audit of three buildings forming a High School complex. The audit is required to assess the current level of accessibility, advise on improvements required and provide budget costs for their implementation.
September 2011 - Primary School Refurbishment Completed
The official handover of the newly refurbished and extended Belgrave Primary School in Chester was celebrated on Friday 9th September with an assembly, attended by the client and project team, school governors and councillors, where pupils and staff thanked all those involved in the successful completion of the scheme.
The culmination of an 18 month programme the project involved replacement of flat roof coverings and all windows and doors, installation of sunpipes and windcatchers and the complete refurbishment of the interior of the school. Three extensions were also constructed to provide a new entrance, small teaching spaces, staff room and a foundation unit covered play area.
David Trowler Associates provided building surveying and project management services including architectural design and lead consultant role.

July 2011 - Education Projects
A number of projects have recently been commissioned in the education sector including modernisation of toilets to a high school, access improvements to two primary schools and the refurbishment of a laboratory, food technology and art rooms to a special school.
Projects currently under construction include the extension of a primary school to provide a new classroom and foundation unit and the refurbishment of another primary school including complete re-roofing and refenestration.
June 2011 - Fire Safety
We are currently undertaking fire risk assessment inspections of two residential care premises, on behalf of a local authority client, to assist them in achieving compliance with recently introduced guidelines. In addition we are project managing essential improvements to one of the properties.
May 2011 - APS Registered Practice
David Trowler Associates became a Registered Practice with the Association for Project Safety (APS) for the provision of CDM Co-ordinator services. To be included on the APS Practice Register a Practice has to prove that it has best practice procedures in place to comply with the CDM Regulations 2007, and is observing these practices.
April 2011 - Children's Centres Improvements
A programme of improvements to four children's centres, on behalf of Cheshire East Council, has now been completed. A variety of works were undertaken including safety and access improvements, flooring and decoration and alterations to provide new toilets and improved office accommodation. A single storey extension has been provided to one centre to provide office, meeting and staff welfare facilities whilst the entrance to the building has been modernised to form a new reception and sensory room.
David Trowler Associates have acted as building surveying consultants and CDM Co-ordinators and provided design and project management services.
March 2011 - Roof Condition Appraisal
In conjunction with Marston & Grundy, Consulting Engineers, a report has been prepared for a government agency to advise on the condition of the roof to one of the properties, including advice on the potential for installation of solar panels. A site survey was carried out on the structure and fabric and report compiled which included options for both alternative roof coverings and photovoltaic systems complete with budget costs.
February 2011 - Planned Maintenance
Following the successful completion of a flat roof replacement project to an administration block of a north west hospital we have now received instructions to proceed with additional re-roofing works. These include a five storey ward block and a series of interconnected internal flat roofs over operational facilities.
January 2011 - Emergency Response
A request for assistance was received from a client whose headquarters building had been badly affected by burst water pipes during the recent cold weather. We immediately attended site to record the damage caused and assist in emergency works being carried out. Reinstatement works have since been scheduled and tendered and we are currently project managing the works on site.
December 2010 - Fire Service Training Facility
The new Community Training Facility has been officially opened at Macclesfield Fire Station. Comprising of a detached two storey house the building can be used for breathing apparatus search and rescue, ladder and height safety training.
A demonstration facility has been incorporated to allow visitors to witness a chip pan fire and also the operation of a sprinkler system.
The facility has been designed by David Trowler Associates who provided architectural, project management and CDM Co-ordinator services.
November 2010 - Community Boxing Gym
The Phoenix Fire Amateur Boxing Club celebrated the opening of their new gym at Warrington Fire Station on 22 November. The official opening was attended by senior officers from Cheshire Fire and Rescue Service, the High Sheriff of Cheshire and local partner organisations.
The new facility has been designed by David Trowler Associates who provided building surveying and CDM Co-ordinator services for the projects on behalf of the Fire Service.
October 2010 - School Extension
Completion has now been achieved on the third phase of a major project to adapt and extend a special school in Cheshire. The current phase involved re-modelling of the existing ground floor and two extensions to form a new sixth form block. Refurbishment of part of the first floor was also carried out to improve a classroom and create new office and staff facilities.
David Trowler Associates have acted as Lead Consultant and Designers on all three phases of the project spanning a period of two years.
September 2010 - Independent Living Centre
Refurbishment works to the Poole Independent Living Centre, Ellesmere Port, have been successfully completed with the building being officially opened by paralympic athlete Anna Jackson.
The Centre has been designed to provide assessment rooms, including Kitchen, Mobility Lounge and Children's equipment to help people with disabilities and older people remain independent. It enables visitors to test state of the art equipment and facilities before purchase and includes a retail area and a small cafe area for visitors.
David Trowler Associates acted as both Project Manager and CDM Co-ordinator for the project.
August 2010 - CHAS Accreditation
David Trowler Associates have now achieved CHAS accreditation as both Designers and CDM Co-ordinators. CHAS is a national body, used by over 400 public and private sector organisations, that assesses the competency of suppliers in how they manage and achieve compliance with key health and safety legislation in the construction sector.
July 2010 - Community Boxing Gym
Work has now commenced on site to provide a Community Boxing Gym at Warrington Fire Station. The development is a joint venture between Cheshire Fire & Rescue Service and Phoenix Fire Amateur Boxing Club and involves the conversion of a former appliance bay to provide a boxing gym and fitness facility which will be used by the fire service, boxing club and other community organisations. David Trowler Associates are acting as building surveying consultants and CDM Co-ordinators for the project.
June 2010 - New Commissions
Newly received instructions include the fire damage reinstatement of a Community Youth Centre, following an arson attack; re-roofing works on behalf of an NHS trust and improvement works to a number of Children's Centres.
Our CDM Co-ordination team has also been appointed in connection with refurbishment works to a listed building and improvement works to two high schools. We have also been re-commissioned by two local authority clients as part of the project team delivering their roofing and window replacement programme.
May 2010 - Health & Safety
A second member of our staff has obtained a CSCS card as part of our on-going programme to ensure all staff visiting construction sites obtain CSCS cards.
April 2010 - Aqua-Mist Installations
We are currently project managing two projects to install Aqua-Mist low pressure water mist systems in homes for the elderly on behalf of a Local Authority client. We are also providing CDM Co-ordinator services for both schemes.
March 2010 - ISO 14001
As part of our process of continual development we have now achieved certification to ISO 14001:2004 for our environmental management systems. This compliments our existing certification to ISO 9001:2008 for quality management.
February 2010 - Conservation
We are currently working on two projects which involve extensive repairs and re-building works to sandstone boundary walls. The repair works are being specified and designed to use traditional materials and techniques. One site involves work to a boundary adjoining a dual carriageway and also to the grounds of a listed building.
January 2010 - CDM Co-ordination
Current commissions include the provision of CDM Co-ordinator Services for a conversion / refurbishment project to provide a new children's centre, an on-going programme of roofing and window replacements across multiple sites and a major project to extend and re-model a primary school.
December 2009 - Primary School Refurbishment
Following preparation of a detailed maintenance plan earlier this year we have now been commissioned to provide professional services in connection with major external and internal refurbishment works to a primary school in Chester.
November 2009 - Investors in People
David Trowler Associates have made a commitment to achieve Investors in People status and are currently working towards an assessment in the New Year.
October 2009 - Station Refurbishment
Following a condition survey carried out earlier this year we have now been commissioned to provide building surveying and project management services in connection with maintenance works to a Grade II Listed former railway station. The works will include re-roofing the main station building and renovation of a signal box and platform shelter.
September 2009 - Medical Library
We have been appointed on behalf of an NHS Trust to project manage and design the refurbishment and upgrade of their hospital medical library. Located over two floors on an upper storey of the building, the project will include provision of meeting facilities and the re-design of office accommodation.
August 2009 - Education
A number of schools projects have been carried out during the summer including a lobby extension to a primary school hall, classroom and toilet refurbishment at a special school and refurbishment of toilet facilities to a primary school.
Completion has also been achieved to a six month project to provide three extensions to a primary school in Ellesmere Port.
July 2009 - Wirral Apprenticeship
David Trowler Associates are pleased to announce that we will be participating in the Wirral Apprenticeship scheme which is being organised by Wirral Council and aims to provide apprentice positions in local companies for a period of 18 months.
June 2009 - Aqueduct granted World Heritage site status
The Pontycysyllte aqueduct near Llangollen has been added to the list of World Heritage sites by Unesco. The Visitor Centre located at the start of the aqueduct was designed and project managed by David Trowler Associates and opened in June 2005. See Project Profiles for further details.
May 2009 - Fire Station Refurbishments
The Practice is currently involved in the refurbishment of six fire stations to improve staff facilities and allow the premises to be used by the local community. We are also working on a project to provide a specialist smoke training facility.
April 2009 - CDM Co-ordination
Cheshire East Council have commissioned us to provide CDM Co-ordinator services for a proposed children's centre in Sandbach. The project will involve alterations and refurbishment to part of an existing primary school to form the new Centre.
March 2009 - Microgrid Feasibility
The Practice has been commissioned to act as lead consultant in the preparation of a feasibility study for a rural school interested in preparing a forward plan for the development of their site and the incorporation of a migrogrid for the local community utilising renewable and other energy sources.
February 2009 - Independent Living Centres
We have been appointed to prepare a feasibility study to assess the options for adapting and modernising two sites to provide independent living centres to assist individuals with disabilities through the provision of information, support and resources.
January 2009 - Feasibility Study
A feasibility study has been undertaken to assess the viability of modernising a city centre fire station to improve staff facilities and also allow surplus accommodation to be shared with community groups and voluntary organisations.
December 2008 - Access Consultancy
A new commission has been received from a North West University to review and update their access audit database. The project will involve the inspection of over 100 properties over various campuses.
November 2008 - Website
Our new website has now been launched and includes new content and enhanced features such as a password protected client area for the storage and sharing of project information.
October 2008 - Day Nursery
We have recently been appointed to project manage and design the conversion and extension of a Victorian office building to provide a Day Nursery for an NHS Trust.
September 2008 - Education
This summer we have successfully project managed a number of refurbishment / alteration projects in schools including a major internal refurbishment at a special school to provide enhanced classroom and toilet facilities.
New commissions include a project to extend and modernise a primary school to provide improved administration, staff and teaching facilities.
